The question can also be what rims can you put on a tyre with a given width in millimeters and tell you how to choose the right rim for a given tyre size? The rim selection calculator for tyres will tell you more than a thousand words, so let’s look at the table slightly below:

If we are sure that the tyre mounted on the rim is properly selected for a given car, it is worth interpreting its markings correctly. Being able to read the tyre designation will also be useful in choosing the right tyre for a rim. We should also remember that if the size of the rims is given in inches, for example, the width of the tyre is already measured in millimeters. What’s more, many drivers believe that the tyre height is also measured in millimeters and for a 195/65 tyre the second value is a tyre height of 6.5 centimeters. This is wrong, because the value given on the tyre after the width is a percentage that expresses the height of the side of the tyre relative to its width. For example, the tyre marked 195/65 has a profile height of 65% of the width, i.e. approximately 126.75 mm.
If you are not sure whether the rims and tyres are properly selected for the specific car model, you search for the information prepared by the car manufacturer. Of course, this type of data can be found in the user manual, on the Internet or an authorized service center. However, we can also check it on the car. Where can you find them?
On the post near the driver’s door (the most common place where such information is placed).
On the fuel filler flap.
On a sticker placed in the glove compartment on the passenger side.
